What do you want for Grove?

What do you want for Grove?

Local officials have asked the community to give input on what improvements they think would be best for Grove.

I gave my input at the recent open house and visited with city council members and other city officials but then I decided to drive around and try to see what Grove ALREADY has to offer. Here are some of the ideas I came up with.

Grove has a historic downtown and downtown is trying so hard to improve. The recently painted murals on Grand Lake Sports Center and the old-time signage across the street are wonderful. Plus the remodel and improvements to this building were a huge improvement. And who am I to judge what kind of business is there? I don't like sushi but would say the same thing if it was a sushi bar. And thank you Dominoes Pizza for the remodel and update to your corner.

If there isn't any money to remodel, fake it!  Personally, I think we should have a mural on the sides of the fire station and police stations. Paint bricks on the side. Paint an old fashioned firehouse on the side of the fire station. Maybe keep with the old-time theme and paint an old-time police station on the side of the police station.

Or perhaps just give it a facelift similar to the Civic Center. It's amazing what paint can do to a metal building.

Grove has many beautiful churches. The good news about all of these churches is they are always aesthetically pleasing buildings. They are maintained and well-kept properties. Keep up the good work and thank you!

Grove also has many beautiful businesses here. Most of the banks have pretty buildings and continue to grow and improve. I love how Grove Dental uses the creek behind the office for landscaping and Bank of Grand Lake keeps the landscape going across the street. Plus both have wonderful buildings and architecture.

Grove has a lot of history. We should highlight it!
Did you know there used to be a railroad that came through Grove? And that Grove used to be called Grove Springs? Isn't that prettier than just Grove?

Community beautification lifts spirits and increases property values. When the tree fell in front of Janet Jae's I was told Main Street used to be lined with big trees and that was the last one! How sad. Main Street looks good, but imagine if it was lined with big canopied trees.

So that's my two, three and four cents. I can come up with many ideas but more importantly, I hope all of us can come together and find something we can identify with and be proud of like our bridges. There are three to get into Grove and all are beautiful when lite up at night.

If you want to participate in the plan to improve Grove, you can go to the City of Grove website (cityofgroveok.gove) or click this link here.
