The types of luxury on Grand Lake

For some people luxury means LUXURY! They may have a big beautiful home, with top of the line appliances, designer interiors, and manicured landscaping. Their home was built, designed and created by high-end designers, engineers, and architects.

On the lake, luxury might mean a massive covered dock with a beautiful boat (probably a yacht) and several pwc’s all new and shiny. This place of luxury is probably on Duck Creek, just because that’s where homes like this are supposed to be.
My friend's infinity pool looking over Duck Creek. This luxury is for sale.

Or it could be a huge home in Governor's Retreat where you live and all of your friends and family come to stay. You like to DIY so this house has your thumbprints on it everywhere. Nothing designer, just comfortable. It’s clean when the grandkids aren’t there (except my office, of course, oh wait it’s my dream, not my house…yet).
Refrigerators are full of beer, soda, and water. And yes refrigerators plural because you need several. There’s a dock with a slide and plastic chairs and Wet Steps because Marty Follis probably talked me into buying some. The dock is covered and there’s a deck on top where people can sunbathe and dive into the water.
And most importantly there is a large deck on the lakeside of the house for everyone to sit and eat meals together at or play cards or drink coffee in the morning.
For others luxury means an 800 square foot single wide trailer with a trail down to the water where there is a swim dock with a thermos of coffee fishing and watching the wildlife. This home could be hidden in Zena or many other places on the lake. Maybe north in Elk River, or on a cliff in Eucha. It’s probably surrounded by large trees that have been there forever and is completely hidden from the road. It can be seen from the water though and I guarantee there are some fishermen who are jealous that it’s not theirs.
What? Just a swim dock? No way. It needs a 4 slip covered dock with four lifts!

Oh wait, who’s luxury is this?

Everyone deserves their own luxury judgment free.

Yesterday I showed a house that had views of the lake in just about every room. Large windows and sliding doors. It has a boat house and a swim dock. Nice, not over the top, but nice. I could definitely live there.

Across the cove is a single-wide trailer added onto by another single-wide trailer. No dock, and no clear path to the water. You really didn’t need one. No landscaping and some water toys scattered on the property.

My clients and I made a comment about the “view” across the cove. But I am happy to say, neither I nor my clients had any judgment about that view. Just a shrug and back to looking at the place we were looking at. It wasn’t going to make or break this deal.

Everyone deserves to have their own kind of luxury.

That place could be someone’s grandpa’s fishing cabin. Grandpa has since past away, but the kids still have the place and although they don’t get to use it much, now that they have kids and grandkids, they like to go there and let their off-spring make memories similar to theirs. Memories like Grandpa showing them how to cast or my dad showing me how to drive the boat or how to take the fish hook out of someone’s foot. Yes, I have these memories too.

At our lake, there will be yachts, a beautiful Regal with a large swim deck and Master Craft boats tied up to each other in a calm cove.  Here I come in my old Sea Ray with the faded green paint. No judgment, just waves, small talk, and the next thing you know we are tied up to their boats too.

I love this lake life!

No judgment on the lady running into Walmart in a bikini top and shorts to get beer. Heck no! No judgment on the super tan extremely fit guy buying M & M’s and Coke at the marina. This is a judgment-free zone! Enjoy your luxury guilt free!

I remember when we were teenagers going to Lake Powel and running into Page, AZ to get food and an ice cream cone. Dad said let’s go so we might have thrown some shorts on, and maybe put our hair into a ponytail, but mostly we were on vacation. We didn’t know who we would see and didn’t care if they saw us in lake attire. That is how it is here.
I love seeing the kids run around barefoot in their bathing suits and it's so peaceful to watch my grandsons fall asleep on the boat. or crash on the couch in their bathing suits. Throw a blanket on them and they are good to go the next morning.

Lake homes and cabins and campgrounds offer so much for us to make memories at and find your own luxury. And if your luxury isn’t what you thought it was, you can find yours. I guarantee everyone can find their luxury at the lake.
Enjoy your luxury!
Peggy
