You are doing what?
I know, it's crazy.
It really is something I have wanted to do for a long time.
My dad was Mayor or on Council for something like 20 years in his little town of Little Kansas, OK. Grove is about 40 minutes from there and I feel this need to step into his shoes in my town. In my community.
So, yes, my name is Peggy Steed and I am running for City Council Member and here are some of my reasons why.
Some in town know me as Peggy Kiefer-Steed.
I was asked by many in the community to run for City Council and this year I am actually doing it.
This is something I have wanted to do for many years. I have always been involved in the city dynamics in one way or another.
Currently I am Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
I am a Realtor with Keller Williams Grand Lake. I live in Ward II in Littlegate. I feel like we live and work in downtown Grove and we love it!
I am married to Roman Steed who is a Captain at the Grove Fire Department.
We have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.
Our daughter and 3 grandsons live and work in Grove.
I am a member of the Grove Area Chamber
As a Council Member we are tasked with managing, improving and developing the city with the resources we have and working with the city staff. I believe our staff here is more hardworking and productive than they are given credit for. They love Grove as much as I do and we all see great things happening here such as the new Event Center and 42-acre park, the new fire and police stations, and much more.
Our staff and boards are not only hard-working but creative at finding grants and looking for other solutions for funding. They are good at thinking “outside the box”. I've seen them know who to call when something just isn’t working right or as it should.
That’s one of the many advantages of living in a small town. Knowing who to call when. And who you CAN call. Who will come help at the drop of a dime because they also love this community will do anything they can to make sure all is right.
Plus, our sales tax income continues to increase and hopefully this will be the direction it continues to go as we improve and this revenue will help pay for improvements.
Grove is a business-friendly community working to attract new retail and restaurants. I would like to see this continue in a positive direction, making improvements on properties we already have such as what was already accomplished at the old civic center.
Grove is host to many events. Fishing, softball, baseball, etc. tournaments and festivals, boating and parades. We just need to improve on what we already have. Our sports facilities need a little more updating. Our roads (always the roads) need more care.
I thought our downtown looked like a Hallmark movie at Christmas. Thank you everyone who took pictures and sent their drones up for aerial shots! It was gorgeous not just in person but on social media.
I am running for City Council Member because I want to see these improvements continue.
I started Friends of Grove Springs Park to bring the park back to life and I would love to see more improvements there and all of our parks. Volunteers are already hard at work on the park and the improvements are making quite a difference.
I would like to see sidewalks and other safety improvements. And good news! In January, Council approved a Safe Routes to School plan to improve safe walking and biking to school.
I am looking forward to working with staff to prioritize and budget funds to implement the plan to include constructing new sidewalks, extending existing sidewalks, improving crosswalks, added signage and traffic calming features.
I would like to continue to see Grove continue to clean up and update where needed.
I would like to hear from our residents what they want from Grove. Where do my constituents feel the City Council needs to focus? Please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
Peggy
