4 Affordable Fall DIY Updates You Can Try This Long Weekend

By Peggy Kiefer-Steed

Because I am a Realtor that wishes she had more decorating skills, I have signed up for many classes and read everything I can about decorating like color and creating the mood for example.

One of the recent blog stories that came my way was 4 Affordable Fall DIY Updates that can be done in a weekend.

Fall weather is here (with some winter thrown in to remind us it's coming) and this is a great time to tackle some home projects before the holiday rush starts. Creating a fresh, modern look to your home can be done with a few simple weekend projects. Here are four DIY projects you can try this fall to spruce up the look of your home.

1. Create a Grand Entrance – Your front door is the first thing your guests see when they come by. This weekend give your entrance a fresh look. Add a pop of color to your front door or porch with contemporary paint colors; sage, muted yellows, and navy blues are trendy colors this year. Sage is my new favorite.

2. Replace Interior Doors – Pre-hung interior doors come in a wide variety of styles from traditional to modern. Instantly update the look of your room or home with new interior pre-hung doors. This is probably the most expensive of the 4 listed here.

Another less expensive option is paint and/or new doorknobs.

Even cheaper take the Magic Eraser to the door and just give it a good clean. Especially around the doorknobs and doorframes.

3. Frame Bathroom Mirrors – Most tract homes come with basic mirrors over the sink. Spend some time removing the mirrors and add a modern, framed hung mirror instead to add elegance and a spa-like feel to any bathroom.

If you are a true DIYer you can just build a frame around your existing mirror. Or decorate it for the season. Driftwood and twigs, pine cones, acorns, etc. are good for Fall.

4. Wallpaper an Accent Wall – Wallpaper is back. Not only are there great options available with modern patterns, colors, and textures, but new adhesive backing makes it easy to apply, straighten and remove.

Peel and stick wallpaper. This one is from Home Depot. The cost is $34.99 for a roll that covers about 28 sq feet. Perfect for my kitchen accent wall. I am actually excited to try this one. My husband says he hates wallpaper but I found some at Target that looks like shiplap!

Fall is a great time to make updates to your home with a little time this weekend. Small changes can make a big impact; a quick trip to the local home improvement store can provide great inspiration for a weekend fall project.

Have fun this weekend and don't forget to honor our Veterans!
All the best,
