National Hat Day and cheers the many hats we wear!

Today, January 15, is National Hat Day. The hats. They can sometimes overwhelm me - the hats. I have so many that I wear. I am a mom, wife, grandmother, City Councilperson, Realtor, dog mom are my most important daily hats.

I have a mom hat that I wear proudly. I have two of my own kids and I am a stepmom also.

I wear a wife hat. Roman and I are still trying to figure out why God put us together, but he did and it works. We love each other. Entertain each other. Support each other and yell at each other just like all other marriages. He drives me crazy. I drive him nuts. I’m not just a wife. I am a FIREWIFE. Trust me, it’s a whole different hat than the normal wife hat.

Cock your hat - angles are attitudes. Frank Sinatra

Fire helmets that need to be retired get to be displayed in our dining room

I am a grandmother, a Mimi. The BEST HAT IS THE MIMI HAT. Joy and laughter are my first thoughts. Their appreciation for me being there to see them, pick them up after school, go to an event, be at an award ceremony they didn’t know was going to happen. It literally melts my heart to see their faces so happy to see me.

How I wish I could ask Scottie to beam me up and over to California to do the same for my Grandkids there.(If I have any young readers, you need to watch a Star Trek episode or two to understand. Scottie was the guy who could “beam” you anywhere you needed to go. – So cool. I hope this happens while I am still alive.

I could get another hat- a pilot’s hat- buy an airplane and fly back and forth from Grove to Livermore. I hate to fly, but what if I am the pilot. What if I am in control? -hmm….. wonder what that would cost… to be continued…

I am a Real Estate Consultant. Technically a Realtor by trademark but there is nothing salesy about me. I love finding homes for people. A home is such an important part of everyone’s life.

I am a City Council Person. Madame Councilwoman Peggy Steed is the title Debbie Botteroff former City Manager gave me and I love it! Love her too. Go ahead and roll your eyes. I don’t care. It’s all fun. And another hat I am proud to wear.

A crown is merely a hat that lets the rain in.   Frederick the Great

Serving on the City Council has proven to be more complex than I anticipated, however the experience is incredibly rewarding.  I have had the opportunity to get to know some of our amazing townspeople and our incredible city staff and yes, they deserve those adjectives!

Now I understand why my Dad was Mayor of Little Kansas and on their City Council so long. It is rewarding and humbling to love your community and have the ability to feel like you have a small part in helping it thrive. Dad was always smiling and always had big tight hugs. Even to just a few days before he died townspeople would call him for his opinion on something. Less than a full year into my term I understand it all so much better.

My Dad- Dick Page

I am a dog mom to four very rambunctious dachshunds who fill all the traits of sausage dogs and keep our house a mess. I don’t always claim this hat. They are super cute but out of control! No it wasn’t my idea to have four of them. I chose one. The rest are on my husband.

There are other hats that I wear that I am sure all of you have as well. A good neighbor hat, a good friend hat, and a friend to nature hat are also on my list and are important to me. I know that I can do better, and I need to put those three hats on more often.

That is not just a hat. A hat is the expression of a woman’s soul. Lily Doche

My Nana's collection of hats. She never went anywhere without her lipstick and a hat.

Shall I continue? There’s a good sister hat, a good daughter-in-law hat, granddaughter-in-law hat (Roman’s grandmother lives with us). Good niece, good aunt, oh my! And the pressure to live up to the standards of my Nana. I have so neglected those standards, Nana. I'm sorry. I seldom, if ever, wear a hat, unless I am on or in the lake and lipstick has turned to lip gloss or tinted Burt's Bees.

The hats we wear tell a lot about who we are I suppose. And like I said earlier it can be overwhelming. I have to rein myself in because I will break my neck trying to wear all of the hats and take care of everything and everyone.

Writing this blog took me down memory lane. No tears. Only happy memories of Dad and Nana. Always with their hats. No real explanation as to why. I'm going to have some ponderings and conversations with family over the next few days to see if I can find out, but I can't jog anything out of my memory.

Until next time. Sending lots of love and hats off to all of you !
