Dear wonderful readers,
Happy Summer!!
I spent the last couple of days at a retreat for Women in Government.
I had more fun than I expected and met ladies I’m sure I will stay in touch
with for quite a while.
One thing that touched me most while I was there was during
a session that involved remembering and discussing one of your favorite jobs or
opportunities.
This is a timely one for me with the World Cup in America
and the Olympics coming again in 2028, because one of my fondest memories of all time, career-wise, was in college when I was given the opportunity to volunteer for the 1984
Los Angeles Olympics.
Talk about getting more out of two weeks than I could
possibly have imagined! Wow!

| I am in my Olympic uniform at the Media Center at the 1984 Olympics with TASS and Aussie Journalists. One of the best career experiences and life experiences if had thus far. |
To begin with, the Olympics are truly special to me. I believe sports have to continue to be a way the world can get along. Unlike wars and politics, there is always sportsmanship, referees, crowds, fans, and athletes who work hard to train, and practice that athletes have in common.
They build skills and seek out coaches. They dedicate their time and
energy to focus on winning because they are the best.
Not because of someone in power. They didn’t win because
someone had more money. And they didn’t win because of political views.
Just good old-fashioned grit and grind and sweat and hard
work.
The iconic opening
line, narrated by legendary broadcaster Jim McKay, went:
"Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of
sport: The thrill of victory... and the agony of defeat!"
I loved that quote as a child as much as I love it now.
Here’s a thought. Maybe if world leaders can’t get along
diplomatically, a group of various soccer/futball players should be recruited as
a panel to figure out the problem. Whatever they say goes. No more wars. No
more destroying each other and killing for no reason.
I am watching the World Cup non-stop, pretty much. It’s on in
the background all the time right now. It’s pretty exciting, and how fun is it
to watch all the visitors for other countries enjoy American culture!?!
As I proudly showed pictures of the lake from our boat
adventures and the beautiful land my daughter lives on to the ladies who live in
the Panhandle. I heard so many stories from other ladies who either grew up
going to the lake or whose parents live at the lake. All very positive and
thoughtful.
Each one reminds me how lucky I am to live here. I am
surrounded by beauty and nature. I have wonderful people in my village, and I am
overly abundantly blessed. Not financially, heartfully. Joyfully. Let the nay-sayers say their say. If they
want. Life is good.
One of my favorite takeaways from the Women’s retreat was Senator
Christi Gillespie’s reminder of Servant Leadership from Romans 12. “The
strongest leaders don’t spend their lives comparing gifts. They spend their
lives using them.”
Sending lots of well wishes your way,
